Warm Up:
"Hey, everybody!" I'm a Goonie, and a card-holding member of the Monster Squad - a kid at the controls of a 29 year old body. If you care to know, I have a rather unwanted super power that can suck the energy right out of a street light (it's never the one over there - it's always the one I'm using). I also have the inimitable gift of being in the wrong place at the wrong time (those stories are for another day). I am happily married most of the time and have a 12 - no - 13 - wait - 14 - slowdown! - 15 - you get the idea - month old son, named Rocco. And... at this very moment, I’m looking at my black shirt that I wore today and can't help but wonder what newly invented substance he had on his hands that is now painted on my shoulder...
Story of my life!
I'm a rather exceptional individual, with a rather unique sense of humor, or so I like to think... I'm NOT a knight in shining armor (just ask my wife), just a kid at the reigns of a computer. I like to say off the wall (or is that off the cuff?) kind of things that sometimes make no sense at all, but just roll with me - It isn't the first time, and it definitely won't be the last time. Most of the conversations I have are in my head, and only the cliff notes come out of my mouth, and usually midsentence during conversation. I scribble when I write because I am a horrible speller and in some severe cases I resort to a form of hieroglyphics. I am a firm believer that the printing press wasn't the "Greatest Invention of All Time" - it was the Spell Checker. I like to use “dashes” and multiple dots when I write that I know don't make any sense grammatically - but I like them so....
Sorry - I lost my train of thought.
I was never in the military, but was part of a military family, which uniquely allowed me to grow up in one place - Southern Maryland. I went to college full time for a year after high school where I began my CG experience, making backgrounds for my computer. After that first year in school, I was hired by one of the largest defense contractors for the military, where I worked as an illustrator for a little less than a year before I was picked up by a lot smaller defense contractor that wanted to double my salary and give me a nifty little gadget, called a beeper! This also allowed me to receive my Top Secret SSBI Security Clearance by the time I was 19. (Side Bar: That's right - if the government can trust me with their secrets, then you can trust me with yours...) But let's focus on the Beeper people!! This is where I developed my digital art skills and love for the game - no not with the beeper but the job - during my 8 years of solitude, in a vault, working as a graphic artist for the Man in the deep, dark underworld of DC (true story). But I have since emerged as a man, winced at the sun, and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina where I've been working for the past 3-4 years in the public sector where I belong.
So, after working for the past 10-11 years as a 2D artist, I am now at the point of being bored with my old toys and have set out to conquer Maya and Beyond! I have already received 2 certificates from the School of Communication Arts (Now Living Arts College) for Advanced Computer Animation but chose to go back to school at Full Sail (Online) to get my BA, since it seemed to fit my 500 piece puzzle of a schedule, and who doesn't love more school debt and no baby sitter?! I swear all the mistakes in my artwork are from my son, who apparently insists that he can do it better... Did I say mistakes? I meant little marks of love. By the time I graduate I will have enough credits from 4 different schools to have my PhD in how to use school as a deduction on your taxes... I'm probably the most educated person you'll ever know without a "real" degree to hang up on my wall.
With all this being said -
